Embracing Healthy Living: Taking Care of My Body and Mind

As I journey through life, prioritizing my health has become a cornerstone of my happiness.

In our fast-paced world, it’s easy to put our health on the back burner. But as I’ve come to
realize, taking care of my body and mind is essential for leading a fulfilling life. Here’s how
I’ve been embracing healthy living and the positive changes it’s brought into my life.

1. Taking 10,000 Steps a Day

With my busy schedule as a full-time nursing student and worker, finding time for yoga in
the park is challenging. Instead, I focus on taking at least 10,000 steps a day. I walk
wherever I can and opt for the stairs instead of elevators. This daily goal keeps me active
and ensures I incorporate physical activity into my routine, even with limited time. Walking
not only improves my physical health but also clears my mind and reduces stress.

2. Nourishing My Body with a Ketovore Diet

I’ve transitioned to a ketovore diet, which combines keto and carnivore principles. This
means increasing my intake of protein and healthy fats while reducing sugar and carbs.
Due to my African background, I avoid the typical American diet. Instead, I cook all my
meals at home, focusing on nutrient-dense foods. I prepare meals once a week and store
them in the fridge and freezer to fit my busy schedule. Eating out is a rare treat, reserved for
once every two or three months. This approach ensures I fuel my body with wholesome,
satisfying meals.

3. Finding Peace through Meditation

Meditation has become a vital part of my routine. Taking time to sit quietly and focus on my
breath helps me connect with myself and find inner peace. Whether it’s by a tranquil lake
or in a quiet room at home, these moments of meditation provide clarity and calm amidst
the chaos of daily life. Regular meditation has improved my emotional resilience and
mental clarity, helping me navigate challenges with greater ease.

4. Engaging in Reading and Writing

Instead of passively watching Netflix, I’ve canceled my subscription and now spend my
leisure time reading books and writing. This shift has been incredibly enriching, allowing
me to explore new ideas, enhance my knowledge, and express myself creatively. Reading
and writing not only stimulate my mind but also provide a relaxing escape from my busy
schedule.

5. Maintaining Relationships with Chosen Family

Another important aspect of my journey is maintaining relationships with my chosen family
while keeping a healthy distance from toxic family members and friends. Surrounding
myself with supportive, positive people has been crucial for my emotional well-being. I
make time for these relationships, ensuring that I nurture and cherish the connections that
truly matter.
By prioritizing these healthy habits, I’ve noticed a significant improvement in my overall
well-being. My journey to a healthier lifestyle is ongoing, but each step brings me closer to
a balanced and fulfilling life. Embracing healthy living is not just about physical health; it’s
about nurturing the mind and soul as well.
